The Volkswagen Derby First Generation, based on the Polo, was offered as a two-door coupe. It paired modest gasoline engines with manual transmissions for efficient city driving.
For the coupe body, Volkswagen provided a range of small gasoline engines, all paired with a manual gearbox and front-wheel drive. The 0.9-liter unit was the entry point, ideal for urban commutes and light duty, while the 1.1-liter offered a bit more flexibility. At the top, the 1.3-liter provided stronger acceleration for highway merging and carrying passengers.
