RAM in Context
The name traces back to the Dodge Ram pickup, whose ram's-head hood ornament became an identity in its own right. When the truck line became a standalone marque, it took the light-duty and heavy-duty pickups with it and later added vans for trade use. RAM models are usually referred to by number series, where a higher number signals a heavier payload and towing class, so the numbering itself says a great deal about the job a given truck is designed to do.
Understanding RAM
RAM body styles differ mainly in cab configuration and bed length rather than in the sedan, coupe and hatchback terms used for cars. A regular cab with a long bed suits work, while a crew cab with a short bed favors passengers. Chassis cab versions leave the rear bare for upfitters, and the van range covers cargo and passenger duties.
