The Ford Orion 1.6 MT is a third-generation saloon, and one thing worth separating early is engine speed from engine load — two ideas often blurred when a driver asks for acceleration.

Type of boost?
A turbocharger or supercharger compresses the air entering the engine so a smaller engine can produce more power. Naturally aspirated engines draw air without a compressor. Glossary entry
No
Type of drive?
Which wheels receive power: front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. All-wheel drive can send power to every wheel for extra traction. Glossary entry
FWD
Bore and stroke?
The diameter of a cylinder (bore) and the distance the piston travels inside it (stroke). Together they determine the displacement of the engine. Glossary entry
80 × 79.5 mm
Engine capacity?
The total volume swept by all pistons inside the cylinders, usually stated in cubic centimetres or litres. Larger displacement often means more power but higher consumption. Glossary entry
1596 cm³

Number of gears?
How many fixed forward ratios a gearbox offers. More gears can improve economy and refinement; continuously variable transmissions have no fixed steps. Glossary entry
5
Maximum power?
A unit of engine or motor output. One metric horsepower is about 0.735 kilowatts. Peak power is normally reached at high engine speed. Glossary entry
90 hp
Maximum power, kw?
A unit of engine or motor output. One metric horsepower is about 0.735 kilowatts. Peak power is normally reached at high engine speed. Glossary entry
66 kW
Compression ratio?
The ratio between the largest and smallest volume of a cylinder as the piston moves. Higher ratios improve efficiency but may require higher-octane fuel. Glossary entry

Acceleration to 100?
The time a vehicle needs to reach 100 km/h from a standstill, a common shorthand for overall performance. Glossary entry

Valves per cylinder?
The number of intake and exhaust valves in each cylinder. Four valves per cylinder is common and helps the engine breathe at higher speeds. Glossary entry

Engine and Transmission
Engine speed is simply how fast the crankshaft turns; load is how much of the available torque is being demanded at that speed. Pressing the throttle in a high gear raises load while revs climb slowly, which is why a downshift often feels more effective.
Drivetrain and Everyday Driving
Front-wheel drive describes only which axle receives torque, not how that torque is split between the two front wheels. That job belongs to the differential, and an open, limited-slip or electronically braked arrangement can each sit behind the same drive label.
Body and Practicality
On a saloon, the bootlid opens above the bumper while the rear parcel shelf and fixed rear window stay in place. The space behind can therefore be longer and deeper than the aperture suggests, so bulky items may not pass through.
