Peugeot 508 2.0 MT Specs — First Generation Restyling
The Peugeot 508 2.0 MT is a mid-size sedan from the first generation restyling. One useful place to start is the difference between how hard the engine is working and how fast it is turning.

Type of boost?
A turbocharger or supercharger compresses the air entering the engine so a smaller engine can produce more power. Naturally aspirated engines draw air without a compressor. Glossary entry
Turbo
Type of drive?
Which wheels receive power: front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. All-wheel drive can send power to every wheel for extra traction. Glossary entry
FWD
Bore and stroke?
The diameter of a cylinder (bore) and the distance the piston travels inside it (stroke). Together they determine the displacement of the engine. Glossary entry
85 × 88 mm
Engine capacity?
The total volume swept by all pistons inside the cylinders, usually stated in cubic centimetres or litres. Larger displacement often means more power but higher consumption. Glossary entry
1997 cm³

Number of gears?
How many fixed forward ratios a gearbox offers. More gears can improve economy and refinement; continuously variable transmissions have no fixed steps. Glossary entry
6
Maximum power?
A unit of engine or motor output. One metric horsepower is about 0.735 kilowatts. Peak power is normally reached at high engine speed. Glossary entry
150 hp
Maximum power, kw?
A unit of engine or motor output. One metric horsepower is about 0.735 kilowatts. Peak power is normally reached at high engine speed. Glossary entry
110 kW
Compression ratio?
The ratio between the largest and smallest volume of a cylinder as the piston moves. Higher ratios improve efficiency but may require higher-octane fuel. Glossary entry

The number of intake and exhaust valves in each cylinder. Four valves per cylinder is common and helps the engine breathe at higher speeds. Glossary entry

Engine and Transmission
Engine speed is how fast the crankshaft turns; load is how much of the available torque is being demanded at that speed. A diesel can carry high load at low revs, so pressing the pedal raises load first, with revs following only as the gear allows.
Drivetrain and Everyday Driving
A front-wheel-drive layout says only which axle receives torque, not how that torque is split between the two wheels. The differential doing the splitting may be a plain open unit or a limited-slip type, and the drive label alone does not distinguish them.
Body and Practicality
A sedan's roof slopes into a separate boot lid, so the load opening is a gap under the parcel shelf rather than a full-height hatch. Long flat items usually slide in well, while tall upright objects have to be laid down or tilted.
