BYD organises its passenger cars into two broad families: the Dynasty series with names such as Tang and Song, and the Ocean series with the Seal, Dolphin and the Sealion SUVs. The Sealion 05 is a compact five-door SUV positioned toward the accessible end of that SUV range, sitting below the larger Sealion models. BYD builds both plug-in hybrid and fully electric vehicles on shared platforms, and the Sealion name has been used for both kinds of powertrain in different markets.
