Yamaha MT-03 engine oil capacity

What oil capacity does the Yamaha MT-03 use?
There is no single Yamaha MT-03 engine oil capacity. The name has covered two different motorcycles, and Yamaha publishes more than one fill quantity for each: a periodic oil change, a change that also replaces the oil filter, and a larger total when the engine is dry. The figure that matches a given bike is the one printed in the owner’s or service manual for that model year and market.
Which MT-03 the capacity applies to
The current MT-03 is a liquid-cooled 321 cc parallel twin, sold from 2016 in most markets and from 2018 in the United States, and it shares its engine family with the YZF-R3. An earlier MT-03, sold roughly from 2006 to 2014, used a 660 cc single-cylinder engine. Those two powertrains do not share an oil quantity, so a 321 cc fill must not be used on a 660 cc motorcycle, and the reverse is also true.
Service fill, filter change, and dry fill
For the 321 cc generation, Yamaha manuals typically give a periodic oil-change volume of about 2.10 L to 2.30 L, and about 2.20 L to 2.40 L when the oil filter is replaced at the same time. The total, or dry-engine, quantity is higher than either service fill. Published lines are not identical across every year and market, so the litre values above are a documented range, not a substitute for the table in the motorcycle’s own manual. A verified millilitre table for every MT-03 year is not included here.
The 660 cc generation used a different sump and a different quantity. Confirm that fill only from a 660 cc MT-03 manual; do not scale it from the 321 cc figures.
What to use and how to set the level
Yamaha specifies a motorcycle-grade oil, commonly SAE 10W-40 meeting API SG or higher and JASO MA or MA2, with Yamalube listed as the recommended brand in many manuals. After a change, the correct level is the one shown on the sight glass or dipstick with the engine warm and the motorcycle held upright, not the pour volume alone. If the printed capacity and the level mark disagree, follow the level mark and stop adding oil once the upper mark is reached.
